Question about castrating the dogs, and behavior solutions?
We have three male adult dogs, all three are small breads (Terrier, Pomeranian, and Wiener dog) on rare occasion they fight for real. (they always wrestle and play fight that’s around the clock constant) also they mark every upright in the house (little splash of urine), and they hump each other frequently.( this is done very quick and there is no sign of arousal, I think it’s just to signify dominance, They don’t do it for sexual pleasure.) Now as I said all three of these mutts are adults(over two years) The question I have is will neutering them (let’s be nice in public, it’s not polite to call it castration) have any real time effect on these behaviors?
Castration is the right thing to do, and to sell it you’ll hear that these types of behaviors go away. That’s not exactly true. I’ve witnessed dogs behaviors before and after surgery, they are mellowed out some while they’re recuperating. But, frankly, there isn’t a real noticeable difference in how they act. There will be those who don’t like this answer, but I can’t help that, I have to go with what I know. Castration unfortunately, is no substitute for responsible and proper dog training.
